SliTaz Development Update — 2024
2024
A quick update from the SliTaz team on where things stand and what is being worked on.
Package Aging
We will be honest: some packages in the SliTaz wok are getting old. Keeping up with upstream releases across thousands of packages is a challenge for a small volunteer team, and some software has not been updated in a while. This is a known situation and not something we are ignoring.
The rolling release model means that packages are updated as contributors find the time to work on them. If you maintain a package or notice something outdated, contributions to the wok are always welcome — check the development section to get started.
Development Is Still On
Despite the quieter pace on the news front, development has never stopped. Commits keep coming in the Mercurial repositories, bugs are being fixed, and the rolling ISO continues to be built and published regularly. The project is not abandoned — it is simply a small team doing what it can with the time available.
Full 64-bit Version in Progress
The most exciting ongoing work is a full native 64-bit version of SliTaz. Stanislas Leduc (Shann) is actively working on this. The current rolling releases are 32-bit (with a 64-bit kernel option), but the goal is a complete 64-bit userland built from scratch — staying true to the SliTaz philosophy of minimal size and maximum control.
This is a significant undertaking that involves rebuilding the entire toolchain and wok for a pure 64-bit target. Progress is steady and we will share updates as the work matures.
