SliTaz is now a Rolling Release Distribution
SliTaz has transitioned to a rolling release model. This means the distribution no longer follows traditional numbered releases, but is continuously updated instead.
What is a Rolling Release?
Unlike traditional distributions that publish major versions (1.0, 2.0, 3.0...) with spaced-out updates, a rolling release is updated continuously. New packages, security patches, and improvements are available as soon as they're ready, without waiting for a major release.
Two Branches Available
We now provide two branches:
- Rolling (stable): Weekly tested and stabilized version. It receives security updates and minor improvements. Recommended for most users.
- Cooking (development): Version with the latest features. It includes real-time improvements from developers. Reserved for testers and advanced users.
Benefits of the Rolling Model
- No major upgrade to plan
- Software always up to date
- Security patches deployed quickly
- Single installation, continuous updates
